Books and Barks! Reading Program

booksbarks

Last year we hosted a reading program that partnered the Auburn Library with Lee County Humane Society.
And it has returned, by popular demand, for Fall of 2017!! We’ll be kicking off the program again on September 11.

This year the program is solely hosted by Lee County Humane Society, and will take place in the shelter.
The program will take place on the 2nd Monday of each month and will allow 10 children, between the ages of 6-11 years old, to participate.  We will offer 8 dog reader slots, and  2 cat reader slots for each reading event.
Readers, bring your favorite book to read to our animals, or select one from our shelter library (we hear that animal stories are their favorites, but they’ll be happy to listen to any story you want to read).

The 1st group of 10 to participate will receive a free book from LCHS!

Monday afternoons the shelter is closed to the public, and we ask if families that have additional children, who will not be reading to an animal, arrange alternate plans for them, or they will be asked to sit in our staff breakroom.
There will be staff in the building working and the pets will not be allowed to be viewed or handled at that time.

We look forward to meeting you all, and our pets are looking forward to hearing your stories!
