At the Lee County Humane Society, we are frequently shown great love, and kindness by our community, and the civic groups in Auburn and Opelika, but last Saturday takes the (King) Cake. As the Krewe of Tigris prepared to take the streets of Auburn for their second Mardi Gras Parade, they spent some extra time and effort to make sure that LCHS and our animals were well represented.
The krewe, very graciously, not only provided us with a gorgeous animal themed float; but also an ample supply of throws for our riders to share with those who braved the rain to watch the parade. I’ll be the first to admit that the canine revelers in attendance likely had more thrown to them from our float than the humans who joined them to watch the festivities, but really, who could blame us?
Though the weather kept us from bringing our animal friends to ride and walk with us, we couldn’t be more grateful to Krewe de Tigris for helping remind everyone that we’re here, and supporting us in our mission to advance humane treatment and responsible ownership of companion animals.
After the parade our staff was so in the Mardi Gras spirit that they even named a litter of kittens with Carnival flair! Come by the shelter and meet Rex, Dauphin, Nola, Landry, Acadia, and Fleur! They’re still looking for their forever krewe! Thank you again to ALL of Krewe De Tigris for including us in your celebration and to all of our dedicated volunteers who came out in the rain to march. Weekly Wish: Sometimes it takes things you wouldn’t normally think of to keep the shelter running. This week we find ourselves in need of Windex, and office supplies!
